Our PADI Adventure Diver Course at the Downtown Aquarium

The Denver Downtown Aquarium is the perfect location to take your PADI Adventure Diver Course. You’ll learn how to better identify fish, describe their characteristics, improve your personal buoyancy, increase your bottom time and learn how to interact, observe, identify and associate with a variety of sharks and other aquatic life. These exciting dives will help make you a more comfortable diver, improve your diving confidence and enhance your knowledge.

The Cool Part

You’ll learn these new underwater activities in TWO DIFFERENT saltwater environments:  Tropical Adventures and the Shark exhibit!  During your dives you’ll be surrounded with some of natures’ most incredible underwater critters and, the best part is, you don’t need to travel great distances to see them because ……. they’re here in Denver!

There’s more!  Once you complete our PADI Adventure Diver Course you’ll have the opportunity to acquire up to three associated PADI Specialties the following day!  Please see all the exciting details below. 

 


What You Learn

AWARE - FISH ID

  • How to help protect worldwide aquatic ecosystems
  • Fish family groupings and common characteristics
  • The planning, organization, and procedures for identifying fish families and species while diving

PPB

  • Fine-tuning your buoyancy underwater
  • Positioning and distributing weight for comfort and desired body position
  • Establishing neutral buoyancy during all segments of a dive

AWARE SHARK CONSERVATION

  • Observe natural shark behavior
  • Indentify observed shark species
  • Indentify non-natural injuries to sharks
  • Demonstrate ability to follow responsible environment guidelines for diving with sharks

UNDERWATER NATURALIST

  • Passively observe aquatic life
  • Maintain neutral buoyancy and body-positioning to avoid negative effects on aquatic organisms
  • Locate and identify underwater plants
  • Locate and observe and identify aquatic invertebrate and vertebrate animals

PREREQUISITES

  • Be a certified Open Water Diver or Junior Open Water Diver from any recognized training organization
  • Be at least 10 years old (10 & 11 year olds will perform the Underwater Naturalist Adventure Dive in lieu of the Shark Conservation Adventure Dive).  The Underwater Naturalist dive is conducted in the same exhibit as the Shark Conservation dive.
  • Must be 12 years of age to participate in the PADI Shark Conservation Adventure Dive
  • 10 & 11 year old participants must also read and sign, along with a parent or guardian, the Youth Diving: Responsibility and Risks Acknowledgement form and view the Youth Diving: Responsibility and Risk Video (see below)
  • Complete the Knowledge Review questions found at the end of the PPB, Fish ID (Underwater Naturalist for 10 & 11 year olds) chapters of the PADI Advance Diving manual or PADI eLearning online and the Knowledge Review for the Shark Conservation Study Guide.

  • Includes:
    • Diving in two separate saltwater environments
    • Three Adventure Dives  (Shark Conservation, PPB and Fish ID)
      Note: As mentioned above,  children 10 & 11 years of age will participate in the PADI Underwater Naturalist Adventure Dive in lieu of the Shark dive
    • Each of the three adventure dives is the first of two required dives for the corresponding PADI specialty.  You'll have the (optional) opportunity to participate in the second PADI Specialty dive the following day.
      Note:  There is a separate fee for this service
    • BCD, Regulator, Gauges, Exposure Suit and Pressure Gauge
    • PADI Adventure Diver Certification Card & Digital Photo
    • (1) day aquarium pass (that day) or parking (that day)

    Not Included:

    • PADI eLearning or Home Study materials
    • (Optional) Corresponding PADI Specialty Certifications
    • Mask, Fins, Snorkel & Booties (these may be rented)
    • Swimsuit, towel and personal hygiene items
      Note: Sorry, no bare feet allowed so please bring shoes (Keens, flip-flops, water shoes, etc) to wear on the wet deck

Wait …. there’s more!  Complete Three PADI Specialties, THE SAME WEEKEND!

Each PADI Adventure Dive corresponds to the first of the two required dives for that particular PADI Specialty.  To attain the specific PADI specialty, you’ll need to complete the second specialty training dive.  For example:  If you complete the second training dive for the Shark Conservation, PPB, Fish ID or Underwater Naturalist courses, you’ll receive a separate PADI Specialty Certification for each one you complete.  Pretty cool!

Your Next Adventure

Once you’ve completed the PADI Adventure Diver course you’ll be ready to complete the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course. It’s easy! All you’ll need to do is complete the PADI Adventure Deep Dive and PADI Adventure Navigation dive.
